CyberWorkBench C-based LSI Design Environment Awarded Grand Prix as 14th "LSI of the Year"

May 18, 2007-NEC System Technologies Ltd. was awarded the Grand Prix in the Design Environment and Development Tool Division as the 14th "LSI of the Year" for its "CyberWorkBench" (hereinafter referred to as "CWB"), a C-based LSI design environment. Sponsored by Semiconductor Industry News, and co-sponsored by Reed Exhibitions Japan, this award is a symbol of appreciation for the "All-in-C" concept in which design engineers utilize the C language throughout the entire design process. A result of more than 20 years of company research in C-based behavioural synthesis, CWB has been implemented in chip development processes in various fields both within and also outside of the NEC Group. CWB was commercialized based on its excellent track record, a fact which was also recognized.

"LSI of the Year" was established to recognize the latest LSI products and technologies which are responsible for providing the most outstanding achievements over the course of the past year. By recognizing excellent products and making them known to the world, this prize is meant to honor achievements by manufacturers and to contribute to further development of the industry's technologies and markets. In this year's competition, a total of 151 candidates were analyzed in the Design Environment and Development Tool Division, and five products were selected to receive the Grand Prix, Second Prize, and Merit Prizes.

NEC System Technology's CWB, this year's Grand Prix recipient, is a design environment based on "All-in-C" concept. CWB allows for the designing of system LSIs from behavioral synthesis to format verification entirely in C language. Development costs and time-to-market are reduced by significantly improving design and verification efficiency through the use of C-language. In addition, CWB can be utilized in data processing, control circuits and entire SoC (System on a Chip) designs.
As Hardware algorithms become increasingly advanced, and the industry faces continued shortages of human resources, algorithm writers will be involved in the entire LSI design process. In order to accommodate industry needs, NEC System Technologies will strive to diffuse CWB so that it will become the de facto standard for LSI design.
