November 15, 2006-NEC Corporation, NEC Electronics Corporation, and NEC System Technologies, Ltd. have started a new solution business utilizing super-resolution technology. Super-resolution technology creates high resolution images that go beyond the resolution power of the camera itself by continuously combining image data from multiple photographs. With this technology, an image with more than 4 mega pixels of effective sensor resolution is created from a digital camera with 1 mega pixel of resolution. This technology allows images shot with mobile phone cameras to be automatically adjusted and then displayed with more precision.
The companies plan to provide a module that combines the super-resolution processing device with software, as well as ASIC (Application Specific IC) equipped with this software. The companies also plan to adopt these products for use in a wide variety of markets, including security systems for monitoring.
