NEC System Technologies Introduces RTGuardian

- Software for Preventing Information Leakage and Enhancing Corporate Network Security -

June 26, 2006-NEC System Technologies, Ltd. announced today the availability of its enhanced version of RTGuardian software for the prevention of information leakage, with enhanced support for Peer to Peer Applications ("P2P"), including Winny. Winny, now popular in Japan, is file-shearing program.

RTGuardian previously provided functions for finding the users of software that could pose a threat and supported a feature for blocking communications made through P2P software. The company has further strengthened this latest version with a wider range of controls to cover software such as Winny and PacketiX that are expanding their user base in Japan.

RTGuardian's P2P feature helps network administrators control corporate policy regarding employee software installation and usage. Corporations can prohibit their employees from using certain software; however, they are still prone to the risk of information leakage since some employees may disregard the prohibition and continue using the software. In addition, the VPN creation software PacketiX (former name: SoftEther) can be accessed directly via the internet by bypassing the firewall and Intrusion Detection System (IDS). Therefore, such software is at risk of being used as a tool for stealing information from network resources, including internal servers and databases.
