NEC System Technologies to Offer Instant Message Management Software to Enhance Security Measures Against Information Leaks

June 28, 2004-NEC System Technologies, Ltd. announced today that it has formed an alliance with FaceTime Communications, Inc. and will begin offering two of FaceTime's Instant Message (IM) management software products, "IM Auditor" and "RT Guardian" starting July 2004.

Users of free messaging services such as MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger are on the rise today. In such a world, IM management software reduces the risks of information leaks, unauthorized access, and virus infection that pose a serious threat to companies. The software also prevents communication and task inefficiencies arising from personal use of the intranet.

IM has a function called "Presence" to check if a person is at their desk. This feature also enables real-time communication by sharing texts, sounds, images, and applications. An increasing number of people use IM next to e-mail and telephone. By the year 2006, IM is expected to become the major method of internal communication in the U.S. However, risks of information leaks and security concerns pertaining to communications over the Internet are serious. There is an urgent need to create a secure environment and to establish operational procedures in order to prevent such risks.

FaceTime's IM management software has been adopted by more than 350 companies, specifically in the financial services industry, in the U.S. and is highly praised as the solution for advanced security management function that allows companies to use IM safely.

IM users are increasing among broadband users in Japan. Corporate users are expected to increase rapidly as IM will be bundled with Windows XP and offered by ISPs for free. NEC System Technologies is the leader in offering IM management software that allows companies to take advantage of IM as a new communication tool in a safe environment.
