NEC System Technologies and BEA Systems Japan to Join in Common Platform

Osaka, Japan -August 6, 2003-NEC System Technologies, Ltd. and BEA Systems Japan, Ltd. announced today that they have reached an agreement to cooperate in sales and joint system development in the field of common platform development for information systems.
Under this latest agreement, BEA Systems Japan and NEC System Technologies, utilizing "BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1J" as released on July 22 - the latest version of BEA Systems Japan's system platform product "BEA WebLogic Platform", will jointly design a common platform to serve as a base for information system applications development and will develop web applications targeting governments, major electronics makers and manufacturers.
To promote business in this most recent area of cooperation, NEC System Technologies will dedicate 30 platform development engineers to this technology and will aggressively conduct training to secure 50 engineers certified for BEA products by the end of the year, with plans to increase this number to 100 for the first fiscal year. In the common platform development operation, the companies are aiming for approximately US $12.5 million in sales for the first three years.
